Autumn at the Mount Angel Abbey - Friday, October 28, 2011
Fall brought us to the beautiful grounds and library of the Mount Angel Abbey in St. Benedict, Oregon.
High above the floor of the Willamette Valley, this Abbey has a majestic panoramic view of
the turning of the fall foliage which is just another of the unknown treasures of Oregon.
Librarian Victoria Ertelt was our gracious host taking our group through many examples
of the antiquarian and rare books in the collection of this library.
The vaults of this library consist of over 5000 titles published between 1300 and 1900.
Of special interest and emphasis were the different Books of Hours including original books
from the 14th and 15th Century and from France, England, Italy and Flanders.
The beauty, color and condition of these incunabula is breathtaking.
